Some five weeks later, on the night of November 23, he took that step. Pascal’s famous memorial to this experience, written in his own hand, was found sewn into his clothing at the time of his death. He had treasured it and had kept it on his person always. His sister Gilberte pi ously preserved it, crumpled and faded among his papers.
