When a Spanish expedition to remove the French finally reached the site of the colony, they found that it had already been destroyed by Indians. To counter any future French threat, the Spanish established missions among the Tejas in 1690 and 1691 (John 1975: 186-191). The French threat seemed to revive in 1713 when Louis Jouchereau de Saint-Denis established a post on the Red River.
