Blatch's contribution lay particularly in calling attention to the plight of working-class women: in 1907 she founded a new suffrage organization, the Equality League of Self-Supporting Women, whose purpose was to rally working-class women to push for the vote, which had been a relatively elitist cause until then. With this as her base, Blatch became an effective lobbyist on behalf of women's causes at the New York state capitol in Albany. She was also a primary organizer of the first of many mass parades for suffrage, which injected new vigor into the women's movement and gave it a more publicityoriented flavor.

And during World War II, Chinese-American women faced the largest range of employment opportunities in their history; with male workers gone to war, women moved quickly to take advantage of job possibilities outside of Chinatown. S. society, fostered by the growth in the numbers of Asian Americans after immigration laws were liberalized in 1965. Women from Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam, have come in much greater numbers, as have women from Korea, India, and the Philippines.
